- Although viewership ratings did not exceed the 1983 version, this series is known for being the most faithful to the novel. It is the second most-viewed adaptation of Louis Cha's works in the 1990s, with an average viewership rating of 32 points.[1]
- Julian Cheung, who played Kwok Ching, previously portrayed Chan Yuen-fung in The Mystery of the Condor Hero (1993).
- Emily Kwan, who played Muk Nim-chi, previously played Mui Chiu-fung in The Mystery of the Condor Hero.
- Lau Dan reprised his role as Hung Tsat-kung, whom he previously played in the 1983 version.
- Chu Tit-wo, who played Au-yeung Fung, previously played Kwok Siu-tin in the 1983 version.
- Lau Kong, who played Genghis Khan, previously played Yuen-ngan Hung-lit in the 1983 version.
- Kong Ngai reprised his role as Or Chan-ngok, whom he previously played in the 1983 version.
- Chan On-ying, who played Hong Siu-ying, previously played Sor-ku in the 1983 version.
- Joseph Koo and Wong Jim also wrote all the theme songs for the 1983 version, except for the first part, whose theme song was written by Tang Wai-hung.
